WIP Wednesday

I am not going to do a whole retreat run down post from this past weekend, but I must say, we had so much fun! Sewing and laughing with friends is darn good therapy. I laughed until I cried-several times over. Thanks so much to my Gruber's friends for a fantabulous weekend. You all are the best!
I started a new quilt while I was on retreat. The color choices may surprise you, I realize. (ha!) I'm making a zig zag quilt with no triangles. This one has been on my to-do list for quite some time. I decided it's time to stop hoarding my pretty jelly rolls and start sewing. The colors are 9900 98 White and 9900 85 Egg Blue.
Moda made a pattern sheet using the technique and there is a free pdf here.
Either the jelly roll I had was one strip short or I lost one strip of fabric somewhere along the way (the latter is highly likely, with all the scraps that were flying around)...so I had to piece some pieces together to finish off  the last corner. See all those extra seams in the bottom right? They were not my favorite to piece, but it was awfully rewarding to make it happen. I'm no stranger to thrifty piecing! :D
I have several more rows to sew together, but I'm getting there! I am absolutely smitten with the simplicity of this quilt. The aqua and white color comb isn't too shabby, either.

I'm linking up with Lee for WIP Wednesday.

I'm glad to hear you had a fun time with your friends. I love when my quilting friends and I get together for a day or two. We have so much fun laughing, sewing, sharing, and eating. Although we may not achieve as much progress as we set out for, but we always leave feeling content and looking forward to the next time. Nice work on your zig zag quilt.

This blue is really pretty - so crisp looking paired with the white. I got to Grubers for the first time in June - OMG!! That was a fun quilt shop. Can't wait to go back again.

It's really pretty! It'd look great layered with other design elements in a bedroom.

Looking good, Amanda Jean! I'm impressed that you got so much done. When I get together with friends to sew, I do more talking than sewing!
Looking forward to seeing how you quilt this one.

Lucky you to have such a wonderful quilting escape! Love the colors for your zig zag quilt. That tutorial was one of the first (maybe the first) I ever used from online. Thanks again for sharing it!

sounds fun!! I love the blue and white ~ so simple and cheery :-)

This reminds me ~ I made a quilt last December using your zigzag tutorial (here's a link if you want to take a peek http://pursuingjoy.blogspot.com/2012/12/covered-in-love-and-prayers.html )
Thank-you for being so sweet & sharing so much with us ~ I appreciate you!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors. I just finished a zig zag quilt using your method and LOVED it! It was simple and sweet! As I was at the guild house working on it, a fellow quilter came in and LOVED it also. So, she went home, dug for fabric and came back so I could guide her! She made a scrappy Christmas zig zag and it came out beautiful! THANKS for the great pattern!

So cute! I was just at IKEA this weekend and saw an option that could be the backing (unless you've already got that planned?) It was in the linens/bedding section and it had dragon flys and clouds if I remember correctly. There was more to the print but it had great potential as backing! If you're near an IKEA, you may wanna go check it out?!

Happy quilting!

I'm in love with this color combination. The zig zag is not too bad, either. I really think that the most basic designs make the most stunning quilts. Great job as usual.

Nice and easy -- I'll have to give it a shot! I love the turquoise and white!

It's so pretty, Amanda! How big will it be when finished?

Suzanne said...

Nice job! I love the way you do the zigzags without triangles and the color palate, well, I recognize that as you, you, you! I bet you are going to pull out something very fun to back it with that will be a great surprise in contrast with the front.

Love the simplicity of it also! The colors as so light and airy! Thanks for the PDF from Moda!

Did you look under the rug? I was short a block on a quilt I made last Christmas and I was sure had counted correctly. I ended up piecing a block out of scraps. Fast forward to January and when I moved the rug in my sewing room to vacuum under it, there was the block. I know my cat is smart, but how did she get it under there?

the quilt is lovely! i am a bit obsessed with chevron patterns right now! I am about to begin one with triangles, but I love this look... glad you enjoyed the retreat!

This is really pretty! I use your chevron tutorial for all of my zigzaggy quilts :)

What is the dimension of the quilt when finished? Just curious.

Love your zig zag. Before you trim the edges, check my blog. I have some tips for keeping it square.

I love this! I want one just like it!

I used your tutorial and made a quilt that I just gave for a wedding quilt. I used big stitch quilting with matching colors and loved how it turned out!

Stunning! I have a solid rainbow jelly roll that may just need to become a zig zag quilt.
I wasn't able to get the tutorial link to work. :(

I just love this one!

I went to the bee blogger post last night but now it says it had been removed? Can you help me find the fabric requirements. I loved the photos of the layout. Thanks do much. Mcantril@kc.rr.com

I tried making this quilt about a year ago and just couldn't do it. For me, it felt like I wasn't making any progress and I got totally discouraged. Seeing your beautiful quilt has motivated me to give it another try! :)

Glynis said...

Love this version of your zigzag. Have already determined your method is the only way I can deal with catching the zigzag wave! Totally serene and peaceful!

This is the pattern my son picked for his first quilt from me. I'm making it for him for Christmas. I never thought of it in a two color scheme. It looks great. As usual you have a lovely color selection. Reading the above comment reminded me that I have a rainbow jelly roll too. Maybe I will have to play... :) Thanks so much for sharing.
